Being a social animal, it is important for human beings to behave in a responsible way. And this good behavior is called Etiquette. Etiquette means manner. Etiquette is a cluster of socially acceptable rules or manners. If you are an office individual or dreaming of a corporate career these are some Corporate Etiquette you must not ignore:
Always be Professional: An office individual cannot be casual about his/her approach or behavior. Your behavior can make or even break the business. You must not forget about professionalism while contacting your boss, supervisors, colleagues, subordinates, and even a clerk.
Keep Communication Formal: While communicating through e-mail, cell phone, and face to face certain etiquette and professionalism have to be maintained. Email is the formal way to communicate in your corporate life. Email although more traditional will always be the chosen tool for secure and authentic communication. You should not use Facebook Messenger or What’s App in case of official communication. Stick to emailing for formal work-related chats.
Be Punctual: Punctuality is the first requirement in your corporate life. Respect other’s time and never be late. Must learn to manage your time and respect others’ time as well. If you are stuck at any other work, let the other people know by a short message. Such simple messages make you sound so professional.
Get a Professional Attire: Your overall look defines you before you do. So be selective and concerned about your dress-up. Get ready with a modest look for your office. This will help you to be a polished and practiced professional.
Don’t be Nosey: You don’t have to peep into other people’s matters. This is really annoying for the other office people. Have patience and respect others’ decisions.
Mobile Etiquette: This is simple but most violated of all the rules. Keep your cell phone in silent mode. Always talk in a low volume. The whole room does not need to know your conversation. Suppose, you are in a conference room and you have a really important call then simply step out with the permission of your boss or just send a message to the caller.
Keep Your Desk Organized: You know, your desk is the reflection of your personality? So why would you miss such an opportunity to present your personality just by organizing your desk? Ensure that you keep the desk neat and organized. This is for your own good.
Watch your words: The words are simple but the impact they make is powerful. Be careful about not hurting anyone with your words. It is better for your work-life not to get involved in office gossips. Office gossip destroys the healthy environment in any office. So, try to avoid office gossips and office politics as well.
Respect gender boundaries: Act appropriately with the opposite gender at all times. Be careful not to cross their personal space. It can make someone really uncomfortable. In case someone is doing this to you: speak up and raise your voice. You have the right to be treated properly by your colleagues.
Follow your boss while in doubt: Who could be a better person to follow than your boss? The boss sets the tone of your professional environment from their dressing to the style of working mirror and match. So always follow your boss.
