Can anyone remember the George Floyd murder case behind police custody last year that caused unrest around the world? Does anyone try to find out the reason behind the cruelty? The answer is no. Because we are used to getting inequality, discrimination, injustice against everywhere and everyone. But my case is different. I am not talking about any political issue but pointing to social gestures like “Equal Employment Opportunity: Where does Bangladesh Stand”?
Equal Employment Opportunity:
Equal Employment Opportunity is that the process of ensuring the equal participation of individuals from all walks of life in society regardless of social characteristics or personal traits. It protects us from job discrimination regardless of:

Equal employment opportunity is an old age problem that yet to be solved. I am discussing on national perspective not the global. I want to connect with everyone quota reform movement placed in 2018 by university students. The outcome is to equalize employment opportunities for everyone. Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) is responsible for recruitment and conducting the exam of civil service known as the BCS exam. There is a lot of discussion and description about the quota distribution in the civil service exam. More details breakdown of the quota system as follows:
District Quota (based on population) 55%
Freedom Fighters/ their children 30%
Rest (general candidates of the district) 5%

This is a burning question of the nation, “Does quota distribution is the only hindrance behind implementing EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) in the govt. private or non-profit sectors”? This has become a long-waited debate of right and left intellectuals in recent years. I am neutral, but I figure out besides this corruption, injustice, discrepancy, bureaucratic complexities are also as responsible as quota distribution.
Fig 2: A Picture Symbolizes Inequality
According to the constitution of The People’s Republic of Bangladesh Fundamental rights under Part III is described as follows:
- Equality before law:
All citizens are equal before law and are entitled to equal protection of law.
- Discrimination on Grounds of Religion. Etc.:
The State shall not discriminate against any citizen on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth.
- Equality of opportunity in public employment:
There shall be equality of opportunity for all citizens in respect of employment or office in the service of the Republic.
No citizen shall, on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth, be ineligible for, or discriminated against in respect of, any employment or office in the service of the Republic.
From everything we have learned the Constitution supports us but the practice is different and the whole practice of the Constitution is a burning question for the public. There is a proverb that says, “Justice delayed is Justice denied”. Similarly, I would say, “EEO delayed is EEO denied”
