A popular quote says, “Survival can be summed up in three words – Never Give Up“, but in modern days, these three words have suitably been replaced by Edward Michael Grylls. Yes, Edward Michael Grylls, popularly known as Bear Grylls, is one of the most famous personalities throughout the world for his popular survival television series Man Vs Wild which originally aired from 2006 to 2011.
A person with Multiple Talents
It would be an injustice to introduce him only as a gutsy person who has all the tips and tricks to survive in any adverse environment since he has also created history by putting his footprint in the highest peak of the world- Mount Everest being the youngest person ever to climb that to date.
Well, the list is not completed yet for Bear Grylls is still servicing as an author, a motivational speaker, a chief scout, and an honorary lieutenant-colonel to name a few.
Unstoppable Bear !
However, things were not as easy for Grylls as it seems now. Bear Grylls, whom we are used to seeing running wild and desert, climbing mountains, and swimming cold water, was once told by the doctors that he might never walk again! This darkest event in Bear’s life took place in 1996 in Southern Africa where he faced a freak freefall parachuting accident and ended up breaking his spine in three places.
But Bear, ignoring all the dream-stealers out there, pushed himself to take up the challenge to climb the unclimbable. At an age of just 23, he became the youngest person ever to summit Everest.
But Bear did not stop there. It seemed that his thirst for creating and breaking more world records was becoming intense with time.
Conquering Challenging Missions
In 2003, he completed another tough mission that was to cross the North Atlantic Ocean leading a team of five supported by the Royal Navy.
In 2005, Bear created another world-record, this time for a formal open-air dinner party at 25000 ft above the sea level which brought him The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Journey to Man Vs Wild
And then in the year 2006, Bear probably took the most fruitful decision of his life and that was to film a series of wilderness adventures under a contract with Discovery Channel where he demonstrated some of the extreme survival skills. Undoubtedly the series brought him overnight fame and he became one of the role models for all the adventure-loving children out there.
Hero in the Real Life
No matter what destiny brought to him-good or bad, Bear always listened to his inner voice which in the end lead him to emerge victoriously. According to Bear Grylls, a path without obstacles does not lead anywhere special. Probably that’s why he always tried to walk in his distinctive way which common people could not even think about.
So, always try to remember the advice given by Bear Grylls,
“You only get one chance at life and you have to grab it boldly”
