As universities had begun the virtual semester from July, Brac University launched a platform where students can learn without internet or any interruption of the network. An online education platform, developed by MIT and Harvard, has revolutionized the pedagogy of Bangladesh. BuX, the first-ever online learning platform by an accredited university, enables students to learn from wherever they are through interactive and lively sessions.
When the pandemic took over our life, learning got constrained within the four walls of our homes. Stages like Coursera and EdX became popular among the youth to acquire skills. Now imagine the same facilities on a platform that does not provide you certificates, but takes you a step forward your bachelor degree. BuX is precisely that.
All the actual courses of BRAC University are enlisted on the website. BracU students can enroll according to their advised courses. The idea is to bring the intensity of physical classes through lecture videos, virtual discussion, lively sessions, and interactive assignments. Here, faculties post their course materials of each course, and students get access to a learning podium that is not disrupted by internet connectivity.
BRAC University has been being admired for the services they are providing to the students in the lockdown situation. It launched the BuX platform with a philosophy to yield the best of both physical and online worlds by offering virtual lessons with a feel of in-person lectures. “BuX will enable you to watch lectures offline, stay engaged with your courses, and have quality assessments that take into account variations in internet connectivity”, expresses the vice-chancellor Professor Vincent Chang, while expecting online education to be a core part of the future education system.
Today, after more than two weeks, students are getting accustomed to the new arrangement and indulging in a practice that is likely to stay in our life in the ‘new normal’. Al-rifatul Islam, a final year student of BRAC University, remarks that the new system is surely a turning point in teaching that ensures students can “attend” classes from their homes with zero disturbances and obstacles. Having said that, he also opines that the video and audio quality need refinement for BuX to sustain in the long-run.
The BuX platform is designed to engage maximum students in continuing their academics despite the lockdown situation. BRAC University believes that it is here to prolong even after pandemic and assures steadfast support in improving the stage. The emergence of BuX undoubtedly paves the way for other universities to indulge in remodelling an education system that ensures learning without any hindrance.
