The basics of Leadership:
- Leadership is not about putting yourself above others.
- Leadership must sense long-term & short-term value.
- Best leaders think win-win.
- Best leaders eat last.
- Best leaders display ownership.
- Best leaders diagnose the problem & then make a solution.
- Best leaders do not react instantly
- Once the decision is made, the best leaders react instantly with massive force.
The Laws of Leadership:
- The law of influence: To be truly effective – in good times and in times of great challenge – leaders must master the ability to influence others.
- The law of sacrifice: The leader must give up to go up. A great leader will sacrifice some of their power and distribute it amongst those that they trust.
- The law of process: Leadership develops daily, not in a day. The learning process is ongoing & a result of self-discipline & perseverance.
- The law of respect: People naturally follow leaders stronger than themselves. We must be strong & worthy of respect if we want people to respect us. We should have;
- High self-esteem.
- High standard in what we do.
- People follow others who possess leadership traits, they respect & admire & consider more worthy of respect than themselves.
- The law of magnetism: “Who you are is who you attract”
Characteristics of Leaders Who Attract Followers:
- Need to be needed.
- Want recognition.
- Focus on others’ weaknesses.
- Spend their time with others.
- Experience some success
- Leaders are constantly attracting followers & often attracting new leaders to themselves.
- This is how organizations experience growth.
- We attract similar people.
- If you want great people in the team, be great.
- The law of connection: “Leaders touch a heart before they ask for a hand”. Leadership has everything to do with how you relate to others and the quality and texture of those relationships. The higher up you go in an organization, the less important your technical skills become and the more your interpersonal skills matter.
- The law of Empowerment: “Only secured leaders give power to others”
- Empowerment is to give the means, the power, or opportunity to do to others.
- Leaders do not feel insecure about sharing knowledge & responsibilities.
- In order to empower others, we must trust ourselves.
- We must trust others to follow through with the managing process & performing the tasks.
- The law of Victory: Leadership equals winning. The main task of leadership is victory. That’s why when companies are underperforming or when the team is losing, the very first thing they do is replace the CEO or the coach with someone they believe can lead them to victory.
The Things Should be Focused in Leadership:
- Focusing on creating value
- Leading with tomorrow as well as today in mind
- Creating a leadership culture within the organization
- Paying a price to assure lasting success
- Valuing team leadership above individual leadership
- Choosing a life of significance, not only success
